My pump clicks on and off constantly—what's wrong?

That's short cycling, and on older wells it's usually the pressure tank. When the bladder fails or the tank loses its air charge, the pump has nothing to cushion against, so it kicks on and off every few seconds. It's hard on the motor and it will kill a pump early, but the tank is far cheaper to fix than the pump, which is why we test it first.

Should I test my well if the water seems fine?

Yes, at least once a year for bacteria. Coliform and E. coli have no taste, smell, or color, so "seems fine" isn't evidence of much. It matters more when the same well waters livestock or when there are kids, elderly, or pregnant folks in the house. See water testing.
